Multitools were first designed and produced by Tim Leatherman of Leatherman Tools. Leatherman was established in the early ‘80s in Portland, with a design called the Pocket Survival Tool, with nine features including blades, a punch, screwdrivers, a file and pliers. The multitool has taken off around the world as an easy-to-carry toolbox. Some designs feature a simple array of basic tools chosen for their practicality; bare basics such as blades, screwdrivers, scissors, can openers and more. Many have handy extras designed specifically for camping trips and survival in emergency situations; serrated blades, wire cutters, rulers, saws, glass breakers, ring cutters and more.
